PRE-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN KICK-OFF MEETING
Hazard Mitigation Planning for 2028-2032

Protecting the health, safety, and welfare of Worth County residents is a critical responsibility for local officials. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides funding to support communities in preparing and updating their Pre-Hazard Mitigation Plans, and the current plan for Worth County is set to expire on March 15, 2027.

A kick-off meeting to begin the update of the Worth County and the cities’ Pre-Hazard Mitigation Plan will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 10 am, at the Worth County Community Center, located at 1310 N. Monroe St. Sylvester, GA 31791.

The purpose of this meeting is to inform the public about the planning process and to review the progress made by Worth County and the Cities of Sylvester, Poulan, Warwick and Sumner in updating the plan.

In accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, local governments are required to develop and regularly update a mitigation plan aimed at reducing vulnerabilities to natural and human-made hazards. Representatives from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission will provide an overview of the update process. The public is encouraged to attend and participate.
