In accordance with requirements set forth by the State of Georgia, Worth County is providing the public notice below. The State mandates periodic reassessment of property values to ensure they reflect current market conditions. As a result, many property owners may have noticed an increase in their assessed property values.
In response, the Board of Commissioners of Worth County will reduce the millage rate from last year’s 12.552 to 9.847 mills — the lowest rate the County has adopted since 1998.
However, under Georgia law, if the overall value of the tax digest increases due to reassessments, and this results in a net increase in expected overall property tax revenue, it is legally defined as a “tax increase,” even if the millage rate is lowered. Therefore, the below notice is required by law and not by choice of the County.
NOTICE OF PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
The Board of Commissioners of Worth County has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 15.52 percent.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Commission Boardroom located on the 3rd floor of the Worth County Courthouse at 201 N. Main Street in Sylvester, Georgia on November 4, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
Place and times of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at: the Commission Boardroom located on the 3rd floor of the Worth County Courthouse at 201 N. Main Street in Sylvester, Georgia on November 13, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. and again on November 13, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 9.847 mills, an increase of 0.875 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 8.972 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $68.27 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $70.02.
